Training Opportunities

CCFH provides innovative, resilience-oriented clinical training, specializing in family and couples therapy. Our programs are designed for the continuing education of health, mental health and social service professionals including: social workers, psychologists, counselors, marriage and family therapists, physicians, and nurses, as well as allied professionals such as family attorneys. Our mission is to strengthen families in distress.

Our training programs are grounded in a conceptual integration of systems theory and a multigenerational family life cycle framework. We attend to the interaction of biological, cultural, and institutional influences in social and developmental contexts. In contrast to the deficit focus of traditional programs, we identify and build family strengths and resources. Our approaches to foster healthy functioning are broad and respectful of today's diverse couples and families and their challenges.

We are distinguished by:
  • Our extraordinary faculty known widely for outstanding teaching, publications and practice initiatives at the forefront of our field.
  • Our Family Resilience Model for intervention and prevention approaches to promote family mastery of stressful crises and life challenges.
  • Our array of training opportunities including: advanced certificate programs, courses, group and individual supervision, workshops, conferences, and summer institutes.
  • Our small seminar and consultation group format, ideal for intensive, interactive learning and collegiality.
  • Our commitment to train community-based professionals to better serve vulnerable children, families, and disadvantaged groups, with support from the Irving B. Harris Scholarship Fund.
